OVERVIEW

The Broomfield Auditorium has served as a cornerstone of the community since opening in 2001, providing a welcoming home for local arts groups, schools, and organizations for more than two decades. This 286-seat performing arts venue, located within Broomfield Community Park next to the Mamie Doud Eisenhower Public Library, hosts concerts, theater productions, dance recitals, meetings, and special community events, and is available for rental with priority given to local groups. Over time, the auditorium’s original sound and lighting systems exceeded their intended lifespan, becoming increasingly difficult and costly to maintain, with some components no longer serviceable and certain fixtures requiring unsafe access methods. In response, the City and County of Broomfield approved a comprehensive renovation project that followed several years of planning and design, ultimately moving into construction in 2025 after pandemic-related delays.

The Project was completed in late 2025, with renovation included energy-efficient LED lighting and modern control systems, new audio equipment and speaker systems, enhanced acoustics through improved wall treatments, and a safer ceiling-mounted lighting grid that increased both performance quality and operational flexibility. Lux played a major role in delivering these technical upgrades. Today, the venue features professional theatrical lighting, a custom sound system, video and live-streaming capabilities, and a Sauter concert piano, along with full accessibility accommodations and free parking. Supporting more than 50 community groups, over 120 days of programming, and approximately 25,000 visitors annually, the Broomfield Auditorium continues to thrive as a vital cultural hub for the region.

EQUIPMENT CHOICE

The final installation featured a sophisticated audio and lighting system designed for optimal performance and control. The sound system consisted of a Left, Center, and Right Line Array, each utilizing two L-Acoustic A10i Focus speakers and two A10i Wide speakers. Supporting low-end frequencies were four L-Acoustic KS21i subwoofers, strategically stacked stage left and stage right at house center. For delay fills, we deployed four L-Acoustics 5XT units to ensure clear sound coverage throughout the auditorium. To power this system, is the L-Acoustic LA4X Amplifier, the LA7.16i Amp Controller, and an LS10 10-port AVB Switch at Front of House. This system was designed, flown, and tuned with the utmost of precision to ensure pristine audio quality for optimal performance & longevity.

Our team installed an extensive network of conduit and specific cabling throughout the auditorium, enabling independent control of each specific system. Precision rigging was performed with iWeiss hardware to install cable wenches for the Front of House static light pipe and the downstage edge static light pipe, facilitating smooth and safe operation.

On the lighting front, we installed 12 Altman house lights equipped with dimmable control modules, wired back to a centralized relay panel for flexible lighting management. ETC lighting was a critical element of this project, featuring up to 35 ETC R20 relay modules, 40 ColorSource Spot V fixtures, 8 ColorSource Fresnel V, 6 ColorSource Par V Zoom, 7 ColorSource CYC, and an assortment of lenses including 6 units of 19-degree EDLT lens tubes, 25 units of 26-degree EDLT lens tubes, and 15 units of 36-degree EDLT lens tubes. Additional accessories such as top hats, half hats, drop-in irises, barn doors, and diffusers were mounted using clamps from the Light Source to hang the fixtures securely on a moving pipe. Collaboration with Elite Core enabled power distribution and connectivity for all ETC fixtures suspended in the air. To enhance room acoustics, we also installed iWeiss acoustic curtains around the space.

This comprehensive project demonstrates our dedication to delivering integrated AVL solutions that blend cutting-edge technology with meticulous craftsmanship and collaboration.

INTEGRATION

Rigging was a critical aspect of this installation, executed with precision and safety as the top priority. Our team utilized specialized iWeiss rigging hardware, including cable wenches for the Front of House static light pipe and the downstage edge static light pipe. These rigging components allowed for secure, controlled positioning and smooth adjustment of the lighting pipes, ensuring both operational flexibility and structural integrity. Throughout the venue, iWeiss acoustic curtains were also installed using carefully planned rigging techniques to enhance the room’s acoustic performance while integrating cleanly with the overall system.

To guarantee safety and longevity, we adhered strictly to structural safety standards and protocols. Our rigging team implemented comprehensive safety measures and followed best practices during installation to maintain the integrity of the venue’s structure. Additionally, we designed and prepared detailed rigging documentation specific to the speaker arrays and the ETC lighting plot. These documents helped guide the entire rigging process, ensuring every load and attachment point met engineering requirements and manufacturer specifications.

For the iWeiss rigging components, we worked closely with the manufacturer’s detailed drawings and installation instructions. Their specific rigging plans were meticulously followed to meet all design and safety criteria, ensuring compliance with project standards. This close collaboration allowed us to seamlessly integrate all rigging elements—lighting, speakers, and acoustic treatments—into a cohesive system built for performance, safety, and durability.

CONCLUSION

It has been a true honor to be a part of the Broomfield Auditorium’s transformation and ongoing legacy. Contributing to the upgrade of such a beloved and vibrant community venue, one that supports so many local artists and organizations, is incredibly rewarding. We are proud to have played a role in enhancing the auditorium’s technical capabilities and ensuring it remains a welcoming, state-of-the-art space for performances and events for many years to come. Being involved with a venue that serves as a cultural cornerstone for Broomfield is not only a privilege but also a testament to our commitment to excellence and meaningful partnerships.
