UCCC MONTFORT THEATHER – GREELEY

The Union Colony Civic Center (UCCC) in Greeley, Colorado, was established in 1988 through a combination of public funding and private donations. Owned and operated by the City of Greeley, the UCCC serves as a premier performing arts venue in Northern Colorado. Its main performance space, the Monfort Concert Hall, accommodates 1,686 patrons and has hosted many events, including Broadway musicals, concerts, comedy shows, and local dance and school performances. The UCCC is also home to organizations such as the Greeley Philharmonic Orchestra and the Greeley Chorale, further cementing its role as a cultural cornerstone in the community.

We have been fortunate to collaborate with the City of Greeley on numerous projects. When they approached us for a new speaker system upgrade for the Union Colony Civic Center (UCCC), we were thrilled to partner with them. The theater had not seen a PA system update in over 30 years, making this an exciting opportunity to modernize their audio capabilities. Leveraging our strong relationship with d&b Audiotechnik, we worked closely with their design team to deliver an exceptional solution.

EQUIPMENT CHOICE

The final installation included a Y-Series Line-Array Speaker System, complemented by eight Vi-SUB NL4 subwoofers—four on each side. Additionally, we integrated d&b’s 24S and 44S loudspeakers, along with a few T10 loudspeakers, to ensure comprehensive sound coverage. To power the system, we utilized seven 40D amplifiers and three 5D amplifiers for the fills, providing robust and efficient system control. Our team also handled the cable pulls, meticulously ensuring seamless signal transmission from the front-of-house (FOH) console to the new line-array system. This project stands as a testament to our commitment to delivering cutting-edge audio solutions and fostering meaningful partnerships.

INTEGRATION

Since the initial concept, we have cultivated a close working relationship with our clients, enabling us to play an active role in the design process. Collaborating with d&b’s technical designer, we worked proactively with the Entertainment Technician Certification Program (ETCP) to ensure all rigging met the highest safety standards for the theater’s longevity and auditory standards of d&b. One of our first tasks was to remove the outdated racks, cables, and speakers, clearing the way for a streamlined installation. This strategic foresight allowed us to run cables through the building’s conduit system and fly our new PA efficiently without disrupting or altering its structure.

In addition to running cables, specific team members were responsible for rigging points. Working in the catwalk and the rope divider room above the stage, we permanently rigged and installed the necessary cables and wire ropes to ensure the load-bearing ratios met rigorous safety standards. This meticulous approach ensured the installation’s durability and reliability.

Once the system was carefully flown, we tuned it and calibrated the delay fills for all three audience levels. This meticulous tuning process created a streamlined listening experience, ensuring every audience member—regardless of seating location—received optimal sound quality. The precise timing of the speakers directs the audience’s auditory focus toward the stage, minimizing distractions from the mezzanine fills and enhancing the immersive experience of every performance.
